Lost Boys- battle report 6

After another long break I finally found time to play another game with my Vampires, this time against Steve’s Orcs n Goblins.

We played 1500 closed lists, and I went with a slower army this time, dropping my usual knights for a vampire lord on foot in a block of skeletons, plus a big block of crypt horrors.

We rolled dawn attack but the unusual deployment didn’t affect either army too much.

Things started off fairly cagey, with the central building getting in both armies way a little bit. A long range head butt on the vampire lord was luckily ward saved, whilst curse of years took a heavy toll on the orc big un unit, despite a scroll of shielding.

A pump wagon went crazy and killed a few more big uns, while the other one killed some dire wolves.

The orc general on wyvern was very effective avoiding my slow blocks and took out the black coach, a zombie unit and the Hexwraiths. Raise dead was used multiple times to try and slow him down and block his charge targets.

On the final turn the orcs looked ahead on victory points until a failed animosity roll saw the silver orc unit (containing a level 2 shaman) charge gung ho into the crypt horrors! That didn’t work out so well and the unit was routed and ran down. Unfortunately we were running out of time at this point so I couldn’t take many photos.

In the end the game finished as a draw, with the vampires scoring around 600 points vs 510 for the Orcs. I think it would have been a victory for the orcs if they hadn’t failed that final animosity roll!

A great game as always against Steve and nice to finally play again.

  1. Always a struggle with the blocky infantry style of Counts, I find. If something hitty can work its way around their lines of sight they struggle. Very sporting of RNGesus to give you a way back at the end there!
